Couple Returning From Vacation Realizes Incredible Mistake at Airport

A Sydney couple has shared their unusual vacation mishap after they arrived at the airport a day early for their flight home from their trip in Switzerland.
Adele Samus and her partner Saxon were enjoying their Swiss getaway so much that they completely mistook the day of their departure.
Samus shared the unusual experience on TikTok, where the story quickly went viral, garnering over 700,000 views.

She revealed how the couple had packed their bags and paid $106 for a 1.5-hour train ride to the airport, ready to check in for their flight back to Australia.
But after waiting in line for 40 minutes to drop their bags for the flight, they were hit with a shocking discovery—it was Thursday, but their flight was booked for Friday.
“I have no idea how we made the mistake,” Samus told Newsweek. “We were enjoying our time so much that we didn’t stop to check what day it was. I don’t think it gets more ‘holiday mode’ than that.”

The couple had already checked out of their accommodation, thinking their Swiss adventure had come to an end, and to make matters worse, they had to spend another $106 on a return train ride, hoping they could still check back into their hotel.
Despite the hassle, the couple managed to keep their spirits high. “We were both shocked. It’s always such an effort to pack up and get to the airport, and we’d just added another travel day for ourselves,” Samus said. “Obviously, it sucked wasting money and half a day in Switzerland, but Saxon and I just laugh at moments like this. It’s not so bad when you’re in it together.”

Thankfully, when they returned to their hotel, the staff were accommodating, and the couple’s room was still available for another night. “It was like a brand-new room when we got back because it had already been cleaned… bonus!” Samus joked.
Since returning home, Samus shared the moment on TikTok, where the video has racked up over 700,000 views and has prompted plenty of comments from people who had experienced similar travel mistakes.
“At least you weren’t a day late!” said one commenter, while another wrote: “I did this in Rome last year.”
“That’s what we call an ‘oopsie doodle’—it happens!” said another reassuring comment on TikTok.
Another viewer praised the way their technology is set up to help her avoid any similar issues. “Forever grateful for my email linked with my calendar so my holiday hotels and booking are on my calendar,” they wrote.
